The crash happened on Thursday, Sept. 26 just after 1 a.m., when a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in the southbound lanes of the Hutchinson River Parkway in Mount Vernon between East Lincoln Avenue and East 3rd Street, according to Westchester County Police Public Information Officer Kieran O'Leary.
The woman, a resident of New York City, was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her identity has not yet been released pending notification of her family.
The driver who hit the woman remained at the scene, O'Leary said.
It is not known why the woman was on the road and what direction she was walking in. No car belonging to her was found in the area so police do not believe she had been driving in the area before walking on the parkway, according to O'Leary.
